The visitor to Hereford sees first a compact gem of medieval architecture spanning nearly five centuries of changing styles of construction, and therefore appearance. There are substantial Norman ( Romanesque) sections - particularly the south transept. During the thirteenth century the Cathedral was extensively changed. The face east and was re-designed to included an ambulatory (a walkway for indoor processions) and a remarkable new Lady Chapel built above a crypt. The Chapel is the first of its kind in England, completed using one Gothic style-Early English - and ranks as the most beautiful of its type in the country. |
| Il visitatore di Hereford vede per prima cosa una compatta gemma di architettura medievale che attraversa cinque secoli di cambiamenti di stile di costruzione e quindi di aspetto. Ci sono notevoli parti Normanne (Romaniche) - in modo particolare il transetto sud. Durante il tredicesimo secolo la cattedrale fu molto cambiata. La facciata est è stata ridisegnata per includere un ambulacro (un passaggio per processioni all'interno della chiesa) e una splendida nuova Cappella della Madonna che fu costruita sopra alla cripta. La cappella è la prima del suo tipo in Inghilterra. Completata usando un unico stile gotico - Early English - viene considerata la più bella del genere nel paese. |
