| ST THOMAS OF HEREFORD. Among a succession of notable medieval bishops of Hereford one, named Thomas Cantelupe, who lived in the thirteenth century, was canonized in 1320 and a shrine erected at his burial place. Pilgrims came to pray. Miracles were attested and attributed to the inspiration of Thomas's piety. Thomas was a learned man, and a wise and caring bishop who stood firm against evil in whatever guise it came. |
