The grand vault is covered with a web of intersecting ribs, and enriched by angels and other figures hanging from the bosses. The overall shape of the vault is not the conventional Gothic pointed cross-vault, but a smooth barrel-vault intersected by small lunettes on either side. Consequently the distinction between bays is eliminated and the space is enclosed under a uniformly curved and patterned surface. This is another important aspect of late Gothic unification. |
