Canterbury cathedral 2
The monastic "quire" erected in this church at the same time was destroyed by fire in 1174, only 4 years after the murder of Thomas Becket on a dark December evening in the north-west transept, still one of the most famous places of pilgrimage in Europe. The destroyed "quire" was immediatly replaced by magnificent Early Gothic one, the first major expression of that architectural style England.

 Il coro monastico eretto nella chiesa alla stessa epoca, fu distrutto dall'incendio del 1174, solo quattro anni dopo l'assassinio di Thomas Becket in una buoia sera di dicembre nel transetto nord-ovest, ancora oggi uno deipił famosi luoghi di pellegrinaggio d'Europa. Il Coro distrutto fu immediatamente sostrituito da un magnifico coro in stile Gotico primitivo, la prima grande espressione di quello stile in Europa.
