The foundation of this splendid Cathedral dates back to the coming of the first archbishop, Augustine from Rome in A.D. 597. Canterbury Cathedral has been rebuilt many times. There was an Anglo-Saxons Church from the VII century but the part of the present building is the great Romanesque crypt built in circa 1100. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1067 and rebuild in Romanesque style . |
| La fondazione di questa splendida cattedrale risale alla venuta del primo arcivescovo, Agostino da Roma nel 597 A.D. La cattedrale di Canterbury è stata ricostruita molte volte. C'era una chiesa Anglo-Sassone del VII secolo, ma la prima parte dell'attuale edificio è una grande cripta romanica costruita circa nel 1100. L'edificio originale fu distrutto da un incendio nel 1067 e ricostruito in stile Romanico. |
