WESTMINSTER ABBEY
Westminster Abbey was rebuilt under King Henry III in a style comparable to St. Denis near Paris. The result is almost a French cathedral in England. Its lofty and narrow proportions, its polygonal apse, and many of its details are basic French characteristics. Several English features include the ornate and multi-ribbed vault with its many bosses (a simple quadripartite vault would have sufficed in France) and the dark Purbeck marble shafts which line the nave.

 L ' abbazia di Westminster  fu ricostruita sotto il re Enrico III in uno stile paragonabile a St. Denis vicino a Parigi. Il risultato è pressoché una cattedrale francese in Inghilterra. Le sue proporzioni elevate e strette, il suo abside poligonale e molti dei suoi dettagli sono caratteristiche francesi. Le caratteristiche più propriamente inglesi sono la volta ornata con molte nervature e con le molte bugne (una semplice volta a crociera ogivale sarebbe stata sufficiente in Francia) e le colonne di marmo scuro di Purbeck che fiancheggiano la navata centrale.
