Cathair Dhuin Iascaigh (Fortress of the Dun abounding in Fish).

Cahir Castle (mainly fifteenth century), a splendid structure, now fully restored, was the largest of its period in Ireland.

It has a massive keep, high enclosing walls, spacious courtyards and a hall, and it is now an architectural interpretative centre. Built in 1142 on the ancient site by Conor O'Brien, Prince of Thomond, this castle came into the Anglo-Norman Butlers in 1375.
