The broad Iverogh Peninsula (also called the Waterville Promontory) stretches south-west from Killarney for nearly 40 miles (64 km) and has an average width of 15 miles (24 km). It has some of the finest mountains in Ireland and the coastal strip around the peninsula carries the famous "Ring of Kerry" road.
