Three miles (5 km) west of Liscannor are the Cliffs of Mother, on one of the outstanding features of the country.

Rising sheer above the sea to the nearly 700 feet and extending about 5 miles (8 km) along the coast, they provide magnificent views especially from O’Brien‘s Tower at the northern end (where the cliffs reach their maximum height of 668 feet), and from Hag’s Head (400 feet) at the southern end.

O’Brien’s Tower, a circular structure, was erected in 1835 by Cornelius O’Brien.

On a clear day the Aran Islands are visible from the cliffs.
